And here we go, we are officially on hiatus! Thanks for all the gracious responses and support as the comic takes a small break. It will be back before you know it.
I am guessing some of you expected to see a city on the other side of the hill, but please note Dickinson said it lies “a distance beyond” the hill meaning that the bears are headed toward the city, but the city is too far for our characters to see from the top of the hill. Remember, their journey was supposed to have been at least a few hours into the woods, so they have some traveling to do to get back.
I’m also anticipating some of you saying “thousands? that’s more like hundreds” but there is a constant stream moving toward the city, so it could easily be thousands. Don’t doubt Joel. See how I have to defend my comic when I post it online?
I wish I had some cool parting gift or extra thing to post here, or even a more clever blog to write. The fact is I still have work to do right now and I’m pretty pooped. I’ll be at Emerald City Comic Con this weekend, so please come see me! I will be on two panels and will be selling goods at the Topatoco booth. lead colorist Noah Maas will also be there in Artist’s Alley and so will Jordan Kotzebue who colored the header!
Alright, if you want to send me art, guest comics, anything to post during the hiatus I would love to do that. Thanks to those who already have. I’ll try to keep things alive during the break so it is not totally dead around here. Thanks for the break! And thanks to Noah, Jonathan, Mike and Matt who all help make this comic happen!

How do they all know where to go? I’ve never heard of bears migrating together before.
My guess is that they are driven by some kind of instinct. Dickinson said that they just decided to kill all humans, so i´m guessing that they´re heading for the big city to kill as many as possible.
My guess is that the Ruxpin Project created a telepathic master bear that wants revenge on humans.
Good point, Teddy has to be the boss or something. I mean, he´s in the middle of the title picture!

Yes, I know. It would be illogical to assume that they could see the city after several hours of travel into the countryside. And the scene with the Bears moving out to the city is awesome. But I must admit to anticipating a Where’s Waldo-like city scene of grisly bear carnage. I am not disappointed, though. It’s a great finish to “Part 1”.
Here’s hoping that, in subsequent parts, there are no interminable sequences of survivors trapped in a freaking farm/barn.
Just for grins, I counted all the bears, including the dots on the horizon. There are about 165 bears give or take 1-2.
So we know bears run very fast. Assuming Joel and Nigel have been watching these bears continuously pour over the hills in this amount for a few minutes now, I think it’s safe to say that as long as they don’t suddenly come to an end, there are thousands. Come on guys this page was enough work with only 165 bears!! I need your support on this.

This page, and some of the upcoming ones, took me multiple days. I sent multiple warnings to the colorists they are going to hate me.
I figure with the 1300 behind the pine trees and the ones we can’t see beneath ridge mixed with the flying ones that just passed into cloud cover there have to be thousands.
Also great job on the perspective all, and especially Johnathan with the atmospheric perspective!
Actually, I was impressed that you drew so many. It’s a fun page that shows the magnitude of the bear’s “War on Humans.”
Just go to say. If you say there are thousands then there are. I just don’t get people who are pedantic about this kind of thing, it indicates a limited imagination in my opinion, or just a pain in the ass for no reason other than their own glory.
