Hopefully, this prayer sounds Mormon. I used a Mormon prayer from a Mormon website as a template. I am not Mormon, nor have I ever been to a Mormon church service. I welcome all feedback so I can make any corrections for the eventual print edition.

Dawww, someone likes their younger brother.
I have high hopes for Joel and Goggs. Hopefully he can collect another bear head. With antlers!
I don’t know Mormon prayer at all, but the Catholic and comic book geek perspectives tell me that hot dang, this is a good scene.
Mormon prayer is like all other prayer except we mean it.
Considering what they’ve all been through, I love how much you can feel that Andrea’s dad means it here. It’s always easy to give up hope when you know the deck’s stacked against you.
Mormon here, good job.
Thanks for the effort and care you put into this book.
Good job on the prayer! There is not really a formula for our prayers, except that we begin by addressing our Heavenly Father, which you did, and end with something similar to “…in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.” We try to give thanks for our blessings and ask for what we need in between.
The one thing that I will note is that Mormons believe that we will be reunited forever with all our friends and family after death. So we’d be less likely to say something about not ever seeing them again. Perhaps Andrea’s dad could say something like, “Many are lost to us and may be facing great danger.”
Anyway, great work!
Yes, this sounds very much like a typical Mormon prayer 😛
I remember the first time we went to a catholic family’s house, and Dad was just like ‘they pray a little differently but just go with it’ and they had this repeated father-son-holy-spirit-amen chant at the end
Now I don’t think that is actually a normal catholic thing.. but that’s the thing about religion. It doesn’t matter how sensible and middle-eastern it started out, if you let Europe touch it, you’re going to end up with a billion crazy variations and traditions. (and if you let Africa touch it they’ll just mix it in with whatever they already had (oh and Asia will just draw adorable chibi Jesus and Santa having snowball fights with cute anime girls and robots))
As a slightly different prayer ( 😉 ) I can tell you we go less “European” and more “American”. I.e. a hodepodge of some chant, sometimes hymn, sometimes litany, sometimes freeform- it depends on the occasion, and often how you feel. I’m guessing from yours and others’ replies here, there isn’t any formal Mormon prayer?
Well the thing about mormon tradition is it’s not very old. They periodically update things and sweep the old stuff under the rug, so there’s not a lot of “we’ve been saying this same prayer since Joseph Smith’s day” in there. Not that I’m an expert. GOD they are sweethearts though. Just every time they come by my door and I have to let them know two testaments is working fine for me but I appreciate how freaking sweet and kind they are.
Did not know the Mormon church updates things! The more you know. A few of my favorite co-workers and a couple of my favorite authors are Mormon. Having even gotten to talk with each author, I heartily agree wit’cha.
Hey Ethan, I saw that you said the only people you draw into the comic are Patreon members. Does that include the Bearicatures from 5 or so years ago? I don’t think I made it in yet but if so, sorry I missed it. Thanks!
Hi Pete,
Yes if you bought a bearicature you’ll still go in. I’ll try to check my list later and see where we are at.
Ethan
Awesome, thanks man 🙂
Great work, as always. I’m loving the story.
I’m glad you asked! Somehow you didn’t make it onto my spreadsheet!!
Haha well I’m glad I asked too! Everything good now? If you need updated info/image, I can provide it.
