HIATUS ALMOST OVER!
I apologize for the long wait. My writing job has taken over my life and I am commuting 90 miles per day round trip, often in traffic. I have needed more time than I thought to adjust. I have just started working on new pages and Kailey is coloring the next. We are hoping to be back on track by next week! -Ethan
Every once in a while I come up with a sound effect that I feel just nails the sound an item would make in the circumstances. I think a slippery water balloon fumbling off a bear would definitely make a “blaump” sound.
Well, the Patreon campaign has been very encouraging. I am almost to the point of another reward tier and will release another free PDF once I reach $100/page.
But the bad news is that I am in the heat of a deadline with an Axe Cop book that has to take precendence right now, and this page was my last one finished in the reserved. So we will be missing a few weeks while I get caught up on Axe Cop. I apologize for that, it’s just the nature of balancing so many projects. The good news is that after this Axe Cop project I am going to set Axe Cop aside for a little while and focus on Bearmageddon at least until I complete book #1.
Thanks, as always, for reading. I’ll see you next time I get time to draw a page. Sorry to leave you on another cliffhanger.

It suddenly occurs to me that they may not have thought this through and an angry flaming bear could be a very bad thing…
😀
Oh dear, this is going to be the same as when you set fire to zombies, isnt it?
Nope Zombies don’t get angry… (also I apparently suck at technology)
Wwll, what if they’re the 28 days later brand?
That was supposed to be “well”, sorry.
To be fair, “Bearmageddon” shows every sign of being an ‘apocalypse survival’-type story. But just as surviving a Zombie Apocalypse is not quite the same as surviving a Vampire Apocalypse… I’m pretty surviving a Bear Apocalypse is going to be different still.
Zombies are simple creatures, incapable of feeling fear or pain. Set one’s body on fire as it’s shambling towards you; it will simply continue to shamble towards you as its body burns; it lacks even the sense to put itself out.
Mutated though the bears of Bearmageddon may be… committed to humanity’s extinction they may be… they are still *living creatures,* not undead zombies. As such, even their animal brains allow for more varied response options than a zombie’s.
Thus, there’s an equally good chance this bear may be scared by the fire, or be overwhelmed by the pain, or attempt a “stop, drop, and roll,” or indeed, plow forward to attack Joel in a bearish fury.
Following your train of thought (on the “Apocalypse Scenario story”):
I have the feeling that surviving a bearpocalypse is a whoooole lot harder than surviving a zombie apocalypse.
Seeing as bears are big, bad, intelligent apex predators and all.
And seeing as how they won’t eventually decompose where they stand like a rotting zombie fleshbag would. I’m with you on this one. Bears are scarier than zombies.
Why did you put the phrase -living creature- in quotes? You don’t need to do that if you are being literal… it kinda just makes it confusing. Just sayin.
Aim for the eyes!!!
The one angry flaming bear will run around and set all the other bears on fire, and soon there will be no more bears. It’s the perfect solution!
Nope Zombies don’t get angry…
“Splish, splosh, I was taking a bawth”
Next comic
FLARE BEAR STARE!
Oh my gosh! I want to see that happen. HAHAHA!
The water baloon said blaump, and then it hit the ground with a plurmp and went rolling around all glburble.
You are now Bearmageddon’s new chief director of onomatopoeia. I will give you BIG MONEY EVERY DAY to make WORD SOUNDS, Morraha. DO YOU ACCEPT??!?1?
My skirt makes a fffwshhhing sound as I curtsey in accep…. Waaaaaiiittt…. Define BIG money.
BIG as in BEARS.
Like… *cough* BEARY BIG money.
HA!
OK, I’m just really enjoying the idea of a water balloon fight with angry mutant bears.
Now that it’s on its hind legs it would’ve been a very good time to have a spear handy.
In terms of onomatopoeia, I still think your best work was ANOINT!

how about this as improv’ incendiary weaponary
The balloon in panel three is red but in panel four it’s blue. MAGIC!!!

That bear has been burning for a month now.
No worries. I brought some lawn chairs and a cooler full of hot dogs, marshmallows, and a variety of soft drinks. We can tell ghost stories!
So much Bear… not enough ‘mageddon.
put me down for a marshmallow and a hot dog until things start moving again.
I have graham crackers and chocolate! S’mores anyone?
Waaaaannnnttt mooooorrrreeeee!!!
And I realized after typing the above comment: “That’s what she said.”
Drop me an email if this ever comes out of its coma.
Yea teoWolves Im with you there…I am sick or whatever is wrong would be nice. I mean I know you don’t owe us anything and were reading this for free but man so many good webcomics come out and then get really good then..nothing for months or years! no reason no nothing. some kind of update would be nice even if it’s to tell us your on hiatus or it will be a month or this is it and theres no more? something please? So we at least know your not dead or something? your not dead I hope? just don’t haunt me if you are.
Sorry about that. Still working on the Axe Cop project mentioned in the blog above. As soon as I finish it, I will dive back into weekly posting here. It is taking longer than I thought it would.
Thank you for replying to my comment. All I wanted was to know what was going on so this for letting us know nad if something happens and its taking nay longer than oyu thought here.. let us know ok? all we need is a post saying hey I’ll be back in a wekk or whattever.. maybe put up some other art instead of this so people who don’t read the coments come back? . When you leave it hanging like that with not even a comment it makes people wonder and you might have already lost some readers because of it. When you say your coming back and then not even a peep well.. I think you get it. I think its great you are doing Axe cop and hope its goes well for you ( I’d have much rather seen this as a tv show though.lol) and I did see it on tv one time and though hey thats the bearmaeggdon guy! good for him! wonder when thats coming back? lol then I went to my hiatus folder of saved comic links and saw you were back so I read on then after a month or two this happens.
If anyone ever asked me if they should do a web comics I’d tell them ( if they were any good that is) to do a good years worth of posts first and then keep it up but jsut becuse oyu have a good buffer don’t stop doing it becse oyu have that buffer becuse it will run out eventually. to keep doing a new one every week or tow of them a week jsut like if you were to post them. that way you won’t hopefully have things like this happen or others who were lucky if they post one time a month. Anyways good luck and I sure do hope you are able to finish this because it’s really good, art and story line so far.. And have them do this as a tv show! or a movie would be even better! I’d pay to watch it. Contact one of the animation or comic studios that do movies and see if they would?I mean you have had one on fox now so you have some thing to show them.. I think it would make a great movie! and I bet most everyone her woudl agree with me right everyone? tv or movie? one or the other woudl be really good. I do love the free webcomic too. Thank you for doing it and I hope your back soon. maybe post some sketches? something?
ok this is odd.. turns out if you click the link below that says” site by Epic Digital Media” takes you to a page selling typwriters or something … kind of.. odd I’d say. ya might wanna fix that.
It might have been a good idea to solicit guest art, storyline, something to keep people coming back during your hiatus, because looking at the same page for nearly two months straight gets kind of old fast.
Ok, I found a way to make this interesting until Bearmageddon picks up again.
Here’s the challenge:
Create a web comic/page that uses ALL of the speech and sound effects from this page that we’re stuck on, in the same order, but with different pictures telling a different story (provided that Ethan’s cool with someone using his words and sound effects for this, of course). Since this page has so many sound effects, I think it could get pretty hilarious and fun.
Anyone up for the challenge? 🙂
For more bear themed fun, go pick up Daniel Remar’s ‘Scrap Pack 1’ and play Bear Miner. You get to swing on a chainaxe on a giant bear.
The theme song is hilarious, too 😀
So, it’s ummm… June, yeah? :/
Say there good sir-what might be the proper way to read through this wonderful colourful online comic ?Thank you ever so much…Go Bears.
Sweet Sally in the alley, Ethan…..
I love wearing my bearmageddon shirt because I can say, “yeah you probably have never heard of this comic it was around a few years ago….”
What news, good sir? We eagerly await the culmination of our heroes’ escape!
… oh sure, give me the ANGRY bear icon, why doncha? XD
That bear has been on fire for 2 months. If it ain’t dead, it’s really pissed.
Jeez. Even Fred Gallagher would put up a “SAD PIRO IN SNOW” picture or something every now and then when he wasn’t updating Megatokyo. The keyword is SOMETHING. Even a posting a stick figure bear from one of your readers would show some level of engagement even if you’re busy with something else.
Hey, don’t be too harsh on the man. Sure, it’d be nice if he posted even a little something, but he is legitimately busy- post after post of complaints isn’t going to make it any easier for him to start up again :
That being said, I think that a few guest strips or concept art is in order. I’m sure that a generally well known comic creator should be able to drop an invite to other comickers for that.
Heck, I might even be willing to do that, if I wasn’t such a slug 😛
So, I’m going to stop checking this comic since it NEVER updates anymore. I understand being busy with other projects, but really? Really? C’mon now.
Yeah, this has become a sick joke. Cruel and unusual punishment with that bear on fire. Oh and not caring about the readers.
Ethan also hasn’t updated axecop from the series promo picture he posted around the same time as this bearpage – and he is normally good about regular axecop updates. I wonder if something big/bad happened to him? I hope not. :/
I’ve noticed that on the Axe Cop Facebook page, there was a memorial fundraiser for his brother’s wife’s family… not sure if the absence is linked?
I’m sorry, I’m just really anxious for this story. I like it much better than Axe Cop. I HOPE all is well with him. I truly do. I apologize for being snappy on my last post.
I’m alive! I’ve just been buried under a pile of Axe Cop and Veggie Tales. I finished Axe Cop, went on a 1 week vacation to Hawaii, then I had a big writing week on Veggie Tales. I am hoping to get back to drawing Bearmageddon this weekend. I also had to do a big wipe and reload on my overloaded computers so I am trying to get everything back in order. Sorry if you’re upset, but I don’t really get a penny for this comic so I really have to set it aside when I can’t afford to spend time on it. I’m hoping to get back on the weekly post in the next week or two. I’m sorry the delay took longer than planned.
Except you make $122 per page, which is paid for directly from your fans.
And if it takes 2-3 days to make a page, that’s $1000/month. Just try living on that.
Sorry, that’s an embarrassing mistake. Honestly the Patreon thing is new, I have only posted one page since it started so I am not used to making any money when I post.
I’ve said on Patreon I would not go over 4 pages per month, so living off of this book by cranking out pages is not really an option. Besides, I don’t think Kailey could keep up. She also has a day job. I couldn’t support my family on $1000/month. Not in So Cal.
Anyway… I just finished drawing the next page! So, hang in there. Once we get it colored things should be back on track.
Ethan
No prob. I’m looking forward to the next update.
Good luck, and I hope you had a nice vacation-
Because we’re going to put your nose to the grindstone, Ethan
jk, jk, just keep on updating.
Hot diggety!
This is basically the only web comic I read and I am following this right from the beginning. And I love it. Don’t mind the delays. Update it whenever you can. Thanks.
Y’all is dicks. Man puts up 133 pages of a great comic for free, and you just whine and complain. (Page 134 is paid, yeah, and Dudley Disappointed can be the first to apologize for being a dick.) Shut up or go away.
I’m just happy the page is restored, instead of being camped-out by a squatter.
Glad you’re alive and kicking!
I hope you all are getting the latest Axe Cop comic books. The American Choppers are going on a stakeout disguised as campers!
Tacos…that is all!!!!!
Did you say Veggie Tales? My daughter likes the show(s). Just checked and I see that there’s a new series in the works.
So now you have one more fan in my household 🙂
Looking forward to all of your upcoming work.
Cool. Thanks for the update, Ethan! Much appreciated.
You have definitely hooked a lot of us on this awesome story and fantastic artwork. We appreciate the detail and effort you put in to each page. It really is impressive work, but I’ve certainly enjoyed the development of the characters as well, and I’m hooked enough to be really interested in where this story goes and what happens to each of these characters. It is certainly a testament to your work that so many of us have checked back here daily/weekly over the last few months, despite the cone of silence. Even the fact that people were frustrated is basically a sign that they like your work and want to see more of it.
Anyway, great to see the notice and update on things, and I have my fingers crossed for a new page next week. (that bear should be a pile of ashes by then, after burning for three months). 🙂
No ashes, but the page has faded to black!
Are we about to get more bear-killing awesomeness, or is this…
…the end of…
BEARMAGEDDON?
…sigh
