If you are looking at this page, and it is not in color, you probably need to go see an eye doctor. He will probably tell you that your seeing is fine. What happened is some kind of mix up with Noah. He told me the page was done and updated, but it never transferred to me, and when I messaged him I think he was already asleep. Since I like to have this done the night before I went ahead and posted the black and white page. Once I get the colors I will update it. Hopefully that didn’t throw you off too much.
Of course if you got here and it is in color already you can totally ignore that first paragraph.
I like this page. I like Dickinson eating the hell out of a fish. I like Gogs sneaking off toward that severed bear head. I like it.
Remember that podcast I posted on Wednesday? Well part 2 is up!
There is good stuff in there. I like this half the best of the two, though between the two we cover a lot of ground. We veer off the comics reservation into other topics like comedy, jadedness, G.K. Chesterton and George Washington.
Man, thanks everybody who bought Bearicatures! I literally went from terrifyingly broke to being covered for a couple months in a day. What a huge relief. As you may have seen, the Premium and Cheater level kills are sold out for now. I would love to sell them all day, but then the entire comic would be random people being killed by bears. That might be a cool comic in itself, but I have a story to tell here. They may open back up if I find I have more room for them. If you want to be on a waiting list, buy the $50 Bearicature and let me know in the description you would like to be on the list. If one opens up I will let you know, but if not you will still get in at the mid-tier.
See you guys next week when we finally get our lovable group of slackers unchained from those trees and on with the story.
Ethan
Is Gogs going to attempt to crush that bear skull with his fist?
More likely make a hat.
No sense in letting it go to waste! Wonder what bear brains taste like?
Like victory. That or he’s going to make a bowl for the chips. That would make him the talk of Superbowl Sunday.
He should put it on a stick and hide bombs inside it.
I’m terrible.
^ …
I’VE LOST ALL SENSE OF COLOR…oh wait, I’m a bear, I can’t see color
I kinda like the black and white thrown in there. Variety is the spice of life, and apparently fish is the meal.
I cannot wait to see what Gogs does with that bear head.
oh, so it was a mistake then…huh,
i figured that either dickinson is colourblind/wounded and seeing black in white (a little like call of duty), or something like that 😛
that’s what i was thinking
Wow. I always knew I was not a visually-oriented guy, but the fact that I didn’t NOTICE this comic was black-and-white before reading the blog post is a little startling.
Is the bear-fighter-guy going to turn into a were-bear-thing?
Because that was my first thought when he started eating the raw fish.
I like this. It’s nice to see your lines again and how different it is from the lines of the first Axe Cop pages. Love the bear head!
I hope you don’t mind I downloaded the page. I’m thinking of colouring it myself when I find the time just to try that job out.
Eew, Dickinson! At least descale it first.. Fish scales are blech.
Great idea! Its a Bearmageddon coloring book!
You know, that would probably sell pretty well…
I agree with Noelle. The black and white is cool and fish scales are blech
“Look at him. He loves it.”
Please, please, please tell me that that’s an intentional quote from Dave Chappelle.
haha if it’s not what happens? Sounds like you might do something rash. Maybe it was subliminal.
The shift to black and white all of a sudden is actually pretty nice.
Bears *and* Chesterton?!
You sir, are the epitome of good taste.
That’s what I told him!
you guys are a welcome, rare exception to the usual reaction “Chesterwho?” or “Catholic…. hm.”
If a guy (say, me) wanted to start reading Chesterton, what book would you recommend as a good first read?
I started with Orthodoxy, which is his explanation of his faith and is one of the most original Christian works ever written. You may start with reading some of his essays, or try his fiction if you are more into fiction. I have read less of his fiction, but the Man Who Was Thursday is one he is well known for and one I love. If you want something short, my favorite essay of his is his intro to Tremendous Trifles. All this can be found for free online because it is public domain.
Fair warning, The Man Who Was Thursday gets really weird towards the end. Worth the read, though.
yeah it does haha.
This reminded me of the early days of Dr. McNinja, except with more detail.
Actually, the page looks great as B&W. I like the detail that is lost when colored.
And then Gogs got some bear blood on him. “I feel strange…”
I love the part where Dickinson is eating that fish.
I have to say, I’m following several (might not be the right word, but oh well) different webcomics at the moment, and this definitely has the best artwork, both in terms of the drawings and coloring (not including this page). The last panel on the previous page in particular blew my mind.
actually this is kind of exciting, now we get a double new post
The crossover potential is endless.
Please Ethan, oh pretty pretty pleeeeease…
I was just thinking the same thing. He needs at least a cameo in Axe Cop
And… COLORED. Also added fish mashing SFX. I love inventing spellings for squishy eating sounds.
Awesome. It was great before, but the color really adds an extra kick to it. Just don’t watch Dickinson slurp down a fish if you yourself are eating something…
could we get a link to the B+W version?
open the file in photoshop, select color range, click an eyedropper on black, CTRL+I, delete, make sure it is against a white background. BAM! There’s your link!
Wow! Sold out already? Man I feel really good about my decision now because I only saw the announcement last night and thought “100 dollars is a lot of money.. but if I don’t do this now it’s going to sell out before tomorrow I bet”.
So I bought it right away! You deserve that money, Bearmageddon is clearly a lot of work so we’ve got to make sure you can eat and live in order to keep it coming. 😀
Gogs is going to put the bear head on someone, isn’t he?
Great to see that the Bearicatures are doing well. This will help the art even more, too, having characters referenced from photos. Characters based on photos tend to look more believable and diverse.
HIGH-PAW for awesome fish nomming!!!!
ps – please dont leave me hanging!!……

THAT WORKS

Bear tracks!
Dang, it collapsed all the spacing. Well it looked good before I posted it
It seems that Dickinson is following the Video Game Rules of Food: anything edible, sanitary or not, will restore a few hit points in a pinch.
HA HA, I didn’t even think of that but it’s so true
I can’t wait to see him eat part of a bear later.
That’ll give at least 20 HP back. The fish is probably only worth about five.
Fish is brain food. It probably restores some MP, too.
I like how he carries fish (something that would draw bears) around, it’s like he’s just daring those bears to come after him.
Also, insert Gollum reference here.
The man loves his sushi . . .
Our only wish, to catch a fish, so juicy sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!
First thing I thought of reading this page: Dan Aykroyd eating salmon dressed as Santa Clause on the subway.
Bearicatures are the best monetizing idea I’ve ever seen for a webcomic, ever. I love that so many people want to be killed by bears.
Those two lines from Gogs are the best bit of dialogue so far in this awesome comic. I think I’ve re-read this page about ten times so far. Great work again.
