Update: Hello there! If you are new to Bearmageddon, this is the first page of the book almost five years in the making (and that’s just volume 1). Since completing Volume 1 I have converted the web comic into a free online 66 page preview. After reading the preview you will come to a page that invites you to purchase the book. As of 2/23/2016 only digital formats are available, but a print edition should be available by April 2016 as well. Please enjoy the free preview and I thank you for visiting my web site.
ORIGINAL BLOG from August 1, 2011
Bearmageddon is here!! I’m excited to finally present to you a project I started over two years ago, prior to becoming “the Axe Cop Guy”. I have been pretty busy with Axe Cop but it has been heavy on my heart to get myself working on something besides Axe Cop because I needed a project that was all my own, and I needed a project that did not require Malachai’s input to move forward. I also love to write, but need practice. I am practicing on you. Thanks for being a lab rat.
The first thing I want to say, especially if you are coming to this comic as an Axe Cop fan, is that you should throw all your Axe Cop related expectations out the window and start fresh. This project is different from Axe Cop in almost every way. Axe Cop is a very unique and special project in its own right, but to compare this project to Axe Cop is comparing apples and oranges. What happened with Axe Cop was something no one could have seen coming, and whatever audience has come over from that project to give this one a chance I am grateful for, but this project has to stand on its own and earn its own audience just like any new project does.
I will be posting new pages every Wednesday and Friday. I wish I could update more, but it is all I can handle right now because I am also trying to post 2-3 pages of Axe Cop per week and I have other projects coming down the pipeline as well including another print-only Axe Cop miniseries. Please “bear” with me as the site comes together. There is a lot of work yet to be done on it, and please let us know if you run into any issues. You can email info(at)bearmageddon.com and the message will go right to me.
Please pay your respects to my awesome colorist, Noah Maas. He is doing some awesome work. I never thought this project would be in color, but it is exciting to see the pages all colored up like they are. Noah is nailing it and I love every page he sends in.
I also want to thank Jordan Kotzebue for coloring the banner you see at the top of this page. I did some minor work on it but the bulk of the color you see up there was done by this talented man. Please check out his web comic Hominids. Both Noah and Jordan work at Pop Cap Games, the geniuses who made Plants VS. Zombies.
Well, I’ll leave you with that for now. I have a lot to do. Page two goes up Friday. Thanks so much for checking out Bearmageddon, and please spread the word!

Oh heck yes! I have been checking this page all day and finally it is up. I can’t wait to see where this story will go
You and me both! Thanks for giving it a try!
OKAY, BEAR IS COMING OUT
Incredible work all ’round. I predict great things. Well, except for all the obviously horrific things that are bound to happen when enraged mutant bear monsters attack. Bravo!
Watching people get mauled by bears is a great thing, as long as no one gets hurt.
SO EXCITED. I love me some Bearmageddon.
Thanks guys!! I’ve been waiting a long time to get this thing moving!
Both the artwork and the coloring are phenomenal. I am so excited that this thing is finally live. It combines my love of bears with my love of action movies. What’s not to like?
It does have ONE thing in common with Axe Cop: great artwork!
Aw, thanks!
Great work Ethan & Noah, I will for sure hang around here for a while! Thanks to Doug who linked his Ratfist fans here. 🙂
Thanks for clicking the link!
Doug TenNapel sent me. I’m watching you now.
You shouldn’t trust doug, ever. But I’m glad you did this once.
This is the best! YESSSSSSSSSS
I’m already laughing a bit at this. “That’s a pretty damn big dog, Jimmy.”
That and “I don’t think that’s a dog, Hank.” This is going to be awesome.
I appreciate that. I thought this page worked better with the guys addressing each other by name like that.
I don’t know why, but “That’s a pretty damn big dog, Jimmy” makes me think of the movie in StarCraft 1, “I think you hit some poor feller’s dog.”
Great first page, Eef! It’s nice to have something new now that Ratfist is ending. 🙁
Yeah what a coincidence huh? I wish I could do the 5 pages a week like Doug did, but I am doing two web comics so I am doing 2-3 Axe Cop and 2 Bearmageddon/week.
If you did more than two pages a week, I think we would get spoiled.
At last, It’s working for me. Congrats on the launch, I now have another webcomic to add to my bookmarks. The art is superb as usual.
Appreciated. It’s going to take a while to tell this story at two pages a week so i want to make sure the art is rewarding in itself even if the story lags here and there.
So exiting! I have been looking forward to this for all week.
Will you be accepting fanart?
of course! Just send it to info(at)bearmageddon.com
Yo Eef. Diggin’ the Bearmaggedon thus far, and excited for more. 😀
thanks!
It’s exciting to see how God has blessed your endeavors.
I’m constantly humbled by my own life. I deserve so much less than I am blessed with, and my career opportunities are only a small part. What I have in family and friends alone is an inconceivable blessing from God.
F YEAH! Bearmageddon!!!! This is so awesome. Great job Noah and Jordan!!! One suggestion: Ethan Your artwork can verge on the phenomenal when you want. Please explore more realistic faces. or… I’m full doo doo, ignore me. But, keep the great work coming!
Some day I’ll be brave and venture into realistic faces, but to produce work i have to do what i am comfortable with. The bears are a big enough challenge. Style wise i decided to make the humans mire cartoony but the bear as realistic as possible. We will see how it works. I think the bears are funnier if they are serious looking.
wow the coloring is just great i think i’m gonna like this a lot
and you shouldn’t be worrying about expectations and so it’s clear this is a different project than axe cop
BTW i came here from ratfist
Thanks, i appreciate that. It’s frightening to follow up a big success. You feel like you are in your own shadow in a lot of ways, but I’m ready to dive in.
I instantly knew that it would be awesome since it had mutant bears.
My logic was if I put a bear with tentacles on the banner I’d instantly attract half the Internet. Who would deny tentacled bears?
I see axe cop! He’s standing by a police car! Although, he doesn’t have his axe…
Also, wooo color!
I thought that kind of looked like Axe Cop. I figured it was just a little Easter egg for us…
The only problem with that is I actually drew this page back before Axe Cop was even thought of. We can pretend if you want.
Dang, you really have had this in the pipeline for a long time. no pun intended.
the li’l background extra cop does look the part
Nice work Ethan and team…it looks great and I can’t wait to see more!
Thanks faithful Muto, good to see you here.
I’m an Axe Cop fan, is it okay if I expect sheer unbridled awesome from this? 🙂
Been following you since Chumble Spuzz (please make a third volume in the future ! ) And I buy Axe Cop from Dark Horse, I cannot wait for Bearmageddon, love the concept but I will wait until it arrives in tpb to devore it, keep up the good work Ethan, you will always have my support.
Good grief, what on earth is that thing. I know from the header that it’s a octobearpus but I just came to start at episode 1 & had to do the big shock thing.
I like to think that Axe Cop is on his radio being called to the scene of a fire right now!
I bought a lottery ticket the other day because it had art similar to Bearmageddon. I won 3 dollars. THANK YOU BEARMAGEDDON!
i was a little disapointed when i found out this was not all about construction workers using their tools to fight the onslaught of epic bears, but this comic definitely is a cool enough alternative and I am looking forward to at least a small scene of this maybe happening later in the series.
Hola! I’ve been following your blog for a while now and finally got the bravery to go ahead and give you a shout out from Kingwood Texas! Just wanted to say keep up the fantastic work!
Wonderful blog! I found it while surfing around on Yahoo News.
Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Thank you
