This week’s edition of the “What happens to Nigel” contest is by Stuart Owen.  I got a laugh out of the “damage to nature” line in the first panel with the truck smashed into a tree in the background.  I also like that two of the three entries so far guess that Nigel will become part bear and fight with the bears.  Definitely more awesome than what I was thinking would happen to him.

From what was posted on Facebook, it looks like Ethan and Jessica’s wedding went smoothly and everyone had a great time.  They’re off honeymooning and taking a well-deserved break this week.  I think Ethan will resume posting next week, but it’s entirely possible I’ll be filling in a little in the upcoming weeks as Ethan catches up with his work and adjusts to his new life.  Congratulations Ethan and Jessica!

Also, if you haven’t bought a spot in the Bear Battle Print, there’s still spots available.  I’m definitely looking forward to how it’ll turn out.  On a related note, if you can’t think of any cool bear mutants to fight, I don’t think “Bear Nigel” is taken.

This is our first entry into the “What Happened to Nigel?” Contest and it comes courtesy of Matthew Sargent, Bearmageddon color flatter and creator of his own web comic, Bag Drop.  I think the most clever thing I am going to have to about this one is in the roll over text (which I just stole from GHA anyway).   I also really like the spider bear doing the surgery. There is still room to be part of the BEAR FIGHT PRINT.  This gives me money for my honeymoon and I draw you with your favorite handheld weapon fighting the mutant bear of your choosing.  It will be a big battle scene with 50-60 Bearmageddon readers teamed up with Joel, Dickinson and the gang in a battle with mutant bears.  Everyone who participates gets a signed print mailed to them.

The hiatus has begun, but I wanted to kick off this period of guest contributions with my own little offering:  It’s a map of possible futures for Nigel.  If you haven’t followed, we are having a contest.  I want you to send me a comic or drawing of some sort that comes up with some outrageous ending for Nigel, now that he has stolen the group’s truck and driven away.  The winner gets a prominent place in the BEAR WAR PRINT and I’ll send them some prints and other goodies along with said print.

Apologies for the late post.  I got called into work on the Axe Cop TV show this week for a couple days and that really threw me off.  Those are full days taken up at a time when I am already pretty behind.  Oh well, only a day late and now I’m on break until after May.  Sorry, I know one page a week is bad enough, but it’s time to start clearing my plate.  My wedding is less than a month away and things are getting crazy!

Well, the idea to draw a group bear battle print was met with overwhelming support, so I am going to do it.  The price was almost unanimously $50, so I am going to do it for that amount.  Unfortunately, Mike (aka TechnoBear) is too busy right now to set up a payment page to start taking orders.  So for now, if you want to reserve your print, and your spot on the print, you can do it this way:

3. click “show/hide” custom order

4. enter $50.00 for Custom package cost  if you are domestic.   If you are international enter $60.00 (an extra $5 will be added on, that will be part of shipping and handling fees)

5. In Additional Information say BEAR BATTLE PRINT.

6. email me your photo and your requested weapon (hand held only please), mutant bear and if you are winning or losing the fight to info@bearmageddon.com

If you want to pay for a group (your family or you and your spouse for instance) email me about doing a package deal.  If you want to spend extra to include a vehicle, a more complicated weapon, or something else, email me and we will work it out.  I will only be taking 60-75 orders.  The print will be 18×24, it will be a giant battle scene between humans and mutant bears.  Joel, Dickinson and the gang will be centrally featured, and surrounding them will be each person who pays to be on the print fighting a bear.  It will most likely be one or two colors because at this price coloring it will be way too much work for me.  If anyone offers to color it then maybe it will be in color.  By ordering you agree to let me use your visual likeness on this print.  You also agree that the final drawing is my choice (I’m not going to make a bunch of edits at this rate of pay).  Please do not make any sexual or drug-related requests.  If you have ordered a bearicature, but it has not made it into the comic yet, you can put that money towards this if you want to.  Just let me know.

We will put up an order page for this next week, but I will only take a limited amount of orders for this, so if you want to make sure to reserve a spot, this is the best way to do so now through the Axe Cop site.

To be clear, I am doing this to raise money to pay for my wedding/honeymoon.  I will not be able to actually start it until I get back.  Once the comic starts back up in June, I will post regular updates of the print in progress on the blog with each page update.  It will probably take some time to complete because it will be very detailed, but once it is done I will have the prints made up and sent out to everyone who ordered them.  Patience will be required, but you will get your prints!  I will also send everyone a large JPG of the image so you can pick out yourself at a good resolution to show off to friends etc., or use it as a desktop background.

Page 100 comes next week and I came up with two pretty crazy ideas.  I have two conundrums: I need to take time away from Bearmageddon for my wedding, and I need to raise some more money for my wedding.  So, here are my ideas:

The Nigel Contest: Next week I will post page 100.  Nigel has taken off, he is now on his own.  I want to have a contest where people submit their own comics with alternate futures for Nigel.  The idea is not to predict what happens in the actual story, but to come up with a satirical alternate ending that shows us where Nigel goes, what he does, and how his story ends.  The more ridiculous the better.  The idea would be to post these through the last two weeks of April and the month of May. This will give me time to focus on my wedding, honeymoon and get back into the swing of things.  Hopefully it will also give us an opportunity to get the colorists caught back up.  These comics could also be to celebrate the 100 page milestone.  Once all of the comics have been posted, you guys pick your favorite and the winner gets to be drawn prominently in my NEXT idea…

The Group Bear Fight Print:  What if I was to do a print that is a big crowd battle VS. bears of all kinds.  You guys get to be in it.  Whoever contributes financially to the print, gets to be in it.  You get to tell me what your weapon of choice is, what kind of bear you are fighting and how you are attacking or being attacked.  I will work Joel and the gang into the crowd fight as well.  It will take a while to complete, so I will post updates on my progress here, much like I have been doing with the Axe Cop print.  This print could serve as a celebratory landmark at page 100.  If you would have any interest in being on this print, you tell me how much you would pay, total, to be caricatured into the print and then to have the print itself in your hands.  I will average out the prices you guys name and that will be the price, as long as it is reasonable. I’m thinking the print would be 18×24 or 24×36.  Let me know what size you would most likely buy.  They would all be signed, and  would need at least 20 participants, so it looks like a real epic battle and not just 3 or 4 people fighting bears.  It would be very detailed, in the spirit of page 69.  What do you think?

I need your input on both of these ideas, because both require audience participation.  I think this could be a lot of fun.  You?

P.S.  A note for those of you who have purchased “bearicatures” but have not appeared in the comic yet.  I know you have been very patient, and I know hiatuses make you nervous.  If you ever feel like you want your money back, let me know.  You WILL be in the book.  The story is barely into Act 2, we are not even to the midpoint yet.  There are a lot of big scenes coming up with a lot of extras and bystanders, and you will all make it into the comic, it is just going to take a while to get there.  If you purchased a bearicature and would like to put that money towards being on the Group Bear Fight Print, let me know, we can work that out too.

Well, I’m still in the middle of everything here.  The wedding date approaches, I’m getting more and more behind.  I finished moving but that spawned a lot of other projects.  The best thing that has happened to me this last week is FOX ADHD released a trailer for the Axe Cop animated series coming out in July.  I know this is not Axe Cop’s web site, but I am posting this here too because I’m that excited.

Sorry for another day-late post.  My life remains crazy.  I was waiting until later in the day yesterday to see if a color version of this page would be coming in, and I also kind of labored over the dialog.  Then I just ended up passing out earlier than expected last night.  I have been moving since Saturday and that has really worn me out.  My entire office is now relocated.

If you are going to Wonder Con, come see me at the ADHD panel at 5:30pm on Saturday!  I don’t know what they will be showing as far as Axe Cop material goes but it should be pretty awesome.

We are getting close to page 100!  I also am going to need to post fan art and guest episodes in May so I can focus on my wedding and honeymoon.  So if you want to send me anything celebrating 100 pages, or a guest episode or anything, I will happily post it and share a link back to your own web comic or web site.

ALSO:  I would like to update the cast page but have no time to do so.  I think it would be cool to get some fan-submitted cast bios.  Pick out an obscure character on a page of Bearmageddon and write me a bio for that character.  Email it to info@bearmageddon.com and I will post my favorites.  Just try not to make it obscene and don’t try too hard to be funny.  Just think of a real person you know and base it on them, that is how I do it.

A little late post today, but I count any time on the day an on time post.  I’m the boss so I guess I get to decide that.

I am working in a very detailed print of the many, many characters in the Axe Cop world.  I am so busy right now I don’t have time to work on it for long periods of time, so I am doing an hour a day, then posting the results.  Here is where I am at so far:

I was thinking about doing  a special Bearmageddon wedding support package that includes a Bearmageddon poster, a limited edition, signed screen print and a sketch of my choice for $35.  The money would go into my wedding fund.  If you think you would buy something like that let me know in the comments and I will set it up.  I am still a ways off from paying for this wedding, and I really want every penny to come out of my pocket.  We don’t have anything for our honeymoon yet either and the wedding is in less than two months.  It’s definitely time to get creative with fund raising.
